MFA’s mangrove conservation program focuses on restoring critical coastal ecosystems through the establishment of mangrove nurseries and monthly planting activities.
In partnership with the Gede Community Forest Association, Kinyaule Community Forest Association, and the Kenya Forest Service, MFA has successfully established six mangrove nurseries in key locations, including Marereni, Kirepwe Island, and Kibaoni. These nurseries have supported the planting of 11,534 mangrove saplings to date, making a significant contribution to coastal ecosystem restoration.
By engaging local communities, the program ensures that restoration efforts are both sustainable and impactful. Community members receive financial literacy training, enabling them to effectively manage proceeds from the sale of mangrove seedlings, thereby creating alternative income sources and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
