MFA is proud to partner with several organisations across East and Southern Africa to form the East and Southern Africa Ocean Resilience Alliance, a consortium that brings together key stakeholders committed to advancing ocean sustainability, strengthening fisheries systems, and improving livelihoods across the region.
This collaboration represents one of the most impactful initiatives we have conceived to date, grounded in a shared vision of restoring and protecting aquatic ecosystems while building resilient and inclusive blue economy opportunities.
Across East and Southern Africa, communities are facing increasing pressure from declining fish stocks, climate change, and growing demand for affordable protein. At the same time, many small-scale fishers remain constrained by limited access to resources, technical knowledge, and sustainable production systems.
Through this alliance, we aim to support a coordinated shift toward sustainable aquaculture and responsible fisheries management. The focus is on building the capacity of small-scale fishers, improving access to quality inputs such as seed and feed, and strengthening market linkages that enable viable and sustainable fish production.
By aligning regional expertise, resources, and innovation, the East and Southern Africa Ocean Resilience Alliance seeks to unlock the full potential of aquaculture as a driver of food security, job creation, and ecosystem restoration.
