At Mariners for Action, we are excited to share the success of our tenth beach cleanup for the third quarter of 2024, held at Mtwapa Beach. This cleanup was conducted in collaboration with the Mtwapa Maweni Turtle Conservation CBO and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Mombasa, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to marine conservation and protecting vital ecosystems.

During this impactful event, a total of 214.7 kilograms of plastic waste was removed from Mtwapa Beach—a critical nesting site for sea turtles. By clearing this harmful debris, we help ensure the beach remains a safe habitat for marine life, particularly for turtle nesting, which is essential for their survival.
Mtwapa Beach is more than just a picturesque coastline; it plays a vital role in supporting marine biodiversity and the local communities who rely on the health of this ecosystem. The successful removal of plastic waste helps maintain the delicate balance of this coastal environment, preserving its beauty and functionality for both wildlife and people.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners, Mtwapa Maweni Turtle Conservation CBO and KWS Mombasa, for their dedication and active participation. This collective effort is a testament to the power of collaboration in combating plastic pollution and ensuring a sustainable future for our oceans.
This cleanup is one of many steps we are taking to address the growing threat of plastic pollution along Kenya’s coastline. We remain committed to expanding our efforts, fostering stronger partnerships, and engaging local communities in conservation activities that protect marine ecosystems and promote sustainable practices.
